Maurice Blackmore was an English immigrant who had ideas about health way ahead of his time. He would be truly proud that Blackmores today is Australia's most trusted name in natural healthcare.

Maurice Blackmore's belief in the health-giving properties of herbs and minerals led him to develop a whole system of healthcare based on naturopathic principles. His views on natural health, preventive medicine, the environment and recycling were nothing short of radical in the 1930s, and his work opened the doors to new ways of treating illness and maximising health.

Maurice Blackmore was responsible for starting Australia's first health food store in Brisbane in 1938 and he worked with colleagues and friends to establish the first naturopathic colleges and associations in the country. His beliefs are still valid today and his teachings are incorporated in the training programs of many natural health practitioners.

This naturopathic heritage has a strong influence on the way Blackmores approaches health conditions and maintenance of wellbeing, drawing on the traditional use of herbs as medicines and combining this with the latest knowledge in nutrition.

Our philosophies and our long-term, holistic approach to health run deep and the values that guided Blackmores back in the 1930s continue to be at the heart of what we do today.

Marcus Blackmore, Maurice’s son, followed closely in his father’s footsteps studying naturopathy and dedicating himself to the business. With an innovative mindset and as a respected and a passionate industry leader, Marcus has not only grown the company, but helped to make natural healthcare an important part of many peoples lives.

Today, as Blackmores Chairman, Marcus oversees a management team committed to the company’s founding principles. As the company continues its expansion locally and into international markets, Blackmores’ passion for natural health care, quality products and commitment to sustainability will continue to touch more and more people’s lives – empowering them to take more control of their health and wellbeing.
